Herb Plant Markers

Why do you need markers for your herbs you say? "Well, you should know what they look like. You should remember what you planted and where". Let me tell you. I do know what they look like (on the seed packet) or (on the plant tag), but once those two things disappear.......I'm lost.

I just uncovered an herb plant from a flower bed that has run rampant in the back yard. Can't remember for the life of me what it is. I remember planting it under the fig tree as it needed part shade. Sure would appreciate it if someone could help me out.

You see last year I got on this herb thing. Bought them randomly, no, no plan what so ever. I vow this year will go better.

I've been watching all kinds of things pop up on the different blogs and such as of late. Some really cool plant markers out there. Looking for "easy" plant markers.

Just a quick look on Pinterest produced manyyyyyy ideas.

Well this is what I did. I keep wanting the inner artist to jump out of me one day. My oldest son must have gotten that gene from somewhere. I had the canning jar lids (canning- another project I started last year), I had some bamboo sticks and glue so why not.

As you can see, I'm no Rembrandt, but I guess it will do. I call it "Abstract"  There seems to be a problem with these though. See below:

They keep falling of the dang stick. I first used hot glue. I guess it got too cold for them. Then I used something call Duco cement. Didn't work. Any suggestions>\?

Then and Now

I think just a little more reminiscing is in store.

I really don't enjoy cooking that much. It requires spending too much time in the house!

So, the thought of growing herbs to cook with seemed a dull thing for me. However, much to my surprise.......most all of the cooking herbs have healthy benefits too!

If you'll go back to my home page, http://grow-use-herbs.blogspot.com/, you'll see I couldn't wait to plant something in those raised beds. That's me! Just do it!

Just take a look at some of these facts I found about about a few of them I planted:

Fennel --Fennel is a great source for potassium, Vitamin C and Fiber.  The fiber will decrease your cholesterol level and hence assist the potassium to help lower your blood pressure. Who knew! http://fennelfriday.com/health-benefits-of-fennel/

 Parsley:

This is a little lengthy, but good info. I was amazed. Garnishes are good for you.

Mints -- I bought different flavors with the bright idea of making my on tea. Haven't done that one yet. Did you know there are hundreds of varieties of Mint? Mint relieves headache pain, helps digestion, and relieves congestion to name a few.

I bought books:

I started to absorb information like a sponge. Seems it's easy to read and take notes. Love those sticky notes. It's the application that brought everything to a sudden stand still.

I was heading in the direction of  medicinal herbs, with the side benefit of using them to cook with. If I ever decided to.

Do you have a favorite direction of study/doing when it comes to Herbs?
The hard part came next.........

Everything I "don't" know about HERBS, but am trying to learn...

Spring is almost here!!!!! Yahhhhh

I started on a journey last year with much  excitement and enthusiasm. My small scale gardening wasn't satisfying my heartfelt need to get my hands dirty and I needed direction.
I'm a dirt person. I trust the dirt. I don't trust diamonds and gold.
So I decided to learn more. Simple searching on social media sites has me with as many as 250 comments on my news feed in less than 8 hours. What have I done!!!!!!

Well let me tell you:

Last spring I acquired 5 hens. Yes they all have names: Tilly, Betty, Anastasia (Granddaughter named this one), BooBoo, and Dinner (son named this one LOL).
Not sure if all the neighbors realize I have these chickens yet, but the ones that do have reaped the rewards!! Gotta keep those neighbors happy/bribed.

Well since I HAD to build the chicken coop (out of pallets) in the back yard, the garden had to be moved. Yep, you guessed it----- to the "front yard". I decided I would just put in a couple of raised beds. By this time it was the end of June. It gets really steamy here and I decided not to plant veggies. I had a couple of tomatoes in pots, that would have to do.

By now I guess you're wondering where I'm going with this,
 stick with me here.

I new I couldn't go the entire summer without getting my hands in the dirt, so my journey began.

~ HERBS~
 Seems there's a lot I don't know about herbs.

Follow along and just maybe we both can figure all of it out!
